Traffic Offense Defense
Ohio Legal Group attorneys regularly represent individuals charged with traffic violations, whether our client's goal is to obtain a dismissal, not guilty, reduction, or no points, we can properly advise on the courts normal practice and what is reasonable to expect.
We frequently represent out of state motorists along the Ohio Turnpike, too, who have been cited and are unlikely to be able to travel back to the State of Ohio to deal with relatively minor traffic citations. We've been successful in resolving those matters without our clients having to return even where the officer advises our client their appearance is mandatory.

Points for Speeding in Ohio
In Ohio, there are multiple factors which impact the allocation of points to drivers: primarily it is amount of the speed and the presence or absence of prior offenses:

For a violation of R.C. 4511.21:

Speed: 1-5 mph (where the speed limit is 54 mph or less) - Zero Points
Speed: 6-29 mph - (where the speed limit is 54 mph or less) - Two Points

Speed: 1-10 mph (where the speed limit is 55 mph or more) - Zero Points
Speed: 11-29 mph (where the speed limit is 55 mph or more) - Two Points

Speed: 30+ mph regardless of speed limit - Four Points

If you receive twelve (12) or more points on your driver's license over a period of two (2) years, the Ohio BMV will impose a suspension on your operator's license, which will last for a period of six (6) months.

Below we outline the points for various other offenses in Ohio.
What offenses do we represent clients on?
Ohio has a long list of traffic citations, and there are no traffic citations we refuse to represent clients on.
How many points am I going to receive on my driver's license?
If you are an out of state motorist, the points assessed to your driver's license will be determined by your home state.

In Ohio most traffic offenses will result in points being applied to your license by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles ("BMV"). If you are an out of state driver, these points will most likely transfer to your out of state license.
If you have 12 points on your license that you accumulate over a two year period, the Ohio BMV will suspend your driver's license. R.C. 4510.037.
If you have 6 or more points, our firm would encourage you to take an Adult Remedial Course, which will give you a two (2) point reduction from the Ohio BMV. (You can take this course every three (3) years, pursuant to R.C. 4510.037.)
